Last September, the audience at the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival chose the documentary RUNNER as best film. Following a successful festival season, filmmaker Bill Gallagher planned to release the film to theaters with a special celebration on June 20, to commemorate World Refugee Day.Despite the health situation around the world and theaters closed, Gallagher still wanted to mark the day and so is making the film available online along with a live Q&A session on Saturday. The Q and A will include Gallagher and Guor Mading Maker (the main subject of the film) and will start at 9 pm. The film will be available to view from Friday with a 72 hour availability window.

On Sunday, February 23, the Newburyport Documentary Festival is proud to present all 5 short documentaries nominated for the 2020 Oscar. The five films are IN THE ABSENCE, LEARNING TO SKATEBOARD IN A WARZONE (IF YOU'RE A GIRL), LIFE OVERTAKES ME, LOUIS SUPERMAN and RUN CHA-CHA. The evening begins at 5pm with a reception that offers complimentary wine, beer and snacks. The film screening starts promptly at 6pm.
